On a bright Sunday morning, August 10th, 2025, our cycling group set out from Serdivan,( Adapazarı), heading toward the Doğançay . The plan was to enjoy a scenic ride through rural Sakarya, combining light exercise with nature, local culture, and a few well-timed breaks for rest and photos. Join me on my cycling journey from Adapazarı to Akçay.
Route Overview
We started pedaling at 8:30 a.m., leaving Serdivan and moving toward the Akçay region. After a few short stops along the way, the ride took about three hours, ending around 11:30 a.m.
Once outside Adapazarı, the route followed the Adapazarı–Bilecik highway for roughly 8 kilometers, passing through Erenler and by the exits for Arifiye, Ahmediye, and Adliye. Despite being a main road, the shoulder was wide and smooth—perfect for cycling. The traffic was moderate, and the road felt safe throughout.
Along the highway, there were several gas stations, small restaurants, and grocery shops, making it easy to refuel or take a short rest. The scenery featured a mix of gardens, small villages, and light industrial areas, gradually giving way to forested landscapes after turning off toward Akçay.

The Forest Road and the Uphill Challenge
After leaving the highway, the road became more peaceful and scenic. A short bridge under construction turned part of the route into a dirt path, but it was easily passable. About 5 kilometers later, we reached a fork leading toward Fevziye and Şükriye villages.
At the start of the steep uphill section, there was a natural spring with cold, drinkable water, shaded by large trees—a perfect spot for rest, photos, and cooling off before tackling the climb.
The uphill road to Şükriye was tough—about one kilometer with a very steep incline. Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of Sapanca Lake. Wild blackberry bushes lined the roadside, and near the summit stood an old village cemetery, a quiet resting spot where we paused again to admire the scenery and take photos.

Descent and Return
After Şükriye, the next three kilometers descended sharply toward the lake. The downhill ride was fast and exciting, though caution was needed because of pedestrians and local traffic in residential areas.
Once back on the flat lakeside road, the route became easy and relaxing. The final stretch toward Serdivan and Adapazarı was smooth, offering calm views of the Sapanca shoreline.
At the end of the ride, I stopped near a small riverside stall in Adapazarı and treated myself to a delicious traditional Turkish ice cream (dondurma)—the perfect finish to a 40-kilometer journey.
